Ladies, what'd I miss? Hit me back. Oh, and this is me in a Lucha Libre mask my last night in Cancun. June 25 The Rest of CancunUgggh, three hours of sleep makes for a cranky Trix. Was up waaaay too late last night watching wresting. Lucha Libre at the Bulldog. The Mexican wrestling where they wear those crazy masks. It was super fun and we had great seats, but far too many Coronas were imbibed and then I went for another swim. This time no one paid me 500 pesos to jump in with my clothes on. So...
Highlights of Pan-American thingie in Cancun:
Lowlights of Pan-Am thingie:
June 22 Cancun Day 1I got to ride in first class for the first time in my life. The seat was so big I could curl up in a little ball and sleep all the way to Memphis. Mephis airport rules. They should just call it Elvis Presley Airport. Check the pic of the Elvis Store below.
Cancun is very very hot. And very very humid. A layer of sunscreen feels like flannel pajamas. The humidity has sucked all the energy out of me --and btw I only had two margaritas last night and a grody shrimp and lobster enchilada (lobster is basically the cockroach of the sea). I just want to lie down and melt into a big puddle of goo.
Went to the WCG press conf this morning. Surprise, it was all in Spanish! Except for Mr Kim from WCG who spoke English...kinda.
Checked out the hall where competition will be. Was very disgruntled that the Guitar Hero area was still under construction and the promised Boom Boom Rocket "Zona" was non-existant. Anger.
So now I'm chilling in my ocean-view room trying to work up the energy to go to the pool. Fun surprise--in my super-effective 4am packing spree I forgot the bottom half of my swimsuit. Killer.
Adios for now.... June 20 Random Cool Stuff including Wolfmother and CancunHola amigos. I am heading to Cancun tomorrow for the World Cyber Games Pan-American Championship. Yes, I will be working. Working on my tan, working on shots of tequila, and working on getting into just the right amount of trouble (the wrong amount would result in jail). So here are some things to check out while I'm South o' the Border:
June 18 Top 'tags for MayNizmo reminded me I never posted the top gamertags for May. These are the top ten served up on Xbox.com in the month of May.
June 14 Meet the new kid KPHere's my new bit-- I mean Editorial Assistant. So far he hasn't been able to bring the belches like BaldSnail, but he does make me laugh so hard I snort.
June 13 Boink, Kill, MarryThis is the best game ever. I give you three celebrities, you decide how you categorize each one. You must pick one to boink, one to kill, and one to marry. I'll start you off easy: Paris, Britney, Lindsay. EVERYONE says they'd kill Paris.
Then it gets tougher with different "editions". For example, the What If They Weren't Gay Edition: Ellen Degeneres, Melissa Etheridge, Rosie O'Donnell. Girls, your WITWG Edition is as follows: Boy George, George Michael, Elton John.
When I sprung the Obese Edition on e, he wanted to know "Is there a suicide option?" No, e, there is not.
My fave, brought to me by the evil pearljam is the Celeb Porn Edition: Screech, Colin Farrell, Tommy Lee.
For you boyz, your Celeb Porn choices are: Pamela Lee, Paris Hilton, Tonya Harding. Go!
June 09 GamerchiX Rocking the WorldI've recovered from my New York travels. You know how it is, wait until the last night to go all crazy...
Anyway, WCG was awesome, Pac-Man was incredible, but for me this was a stellar week for Xbox GamerchiX!
We celebrated our one year anniversary on June 5, and coincidentally that was the same day as the Pac-Man World Championship. I invited a bunch of NY/NJ chiX to our Pac-Man party and they are SUCH cool girls. DirtyDiva had met a few of them before at a chiX meetup in May, and me and MechAngel go way back (at least to GDC) but it was my first time meeting HutSutRaw, FantasyBarb, LadyBluEyes, TGC Quyit, TGC Luvless, IchigoSage, and Real n Suid. We had a great time. We kept the party going over at the Marriott where we were joined by DangerKitty2020 who told me all about law school, and brand new chiX member xteethx who found us through Twitter! There was a lot of game talk, laughing, advice-giving (HutSut has the most beautiful curly hair) and absolutely ZERO hair-pulling, scratching and bitching. Sorry guys.
I got back to the Xbox mothership to discover that my inbox was full of emails from new girls wanting to joing XGX. I added nearly 100 new girls to the group and I'm very happy to say that we now have over 2,500 members of GamerchiX!
I know when we started some dudes were afraid we'd take the few girls they thought played games and segregate them from the rest of the community, but I haven't seen that at all. The girls make friends, try new games and gain the confidence to deal with the jerks. And if something gets too intense they know they've got a couple thousand sisters to back them up.
I would like to say a humongous thank you to my co-founders DirtyDiva and PMS Kitty. We three are eerily alike in weird ways... we must have been triplets in another life. Cheers to you girls!
Mostly though I want to send a huge 'thank-you,' a 'happy birthday' and a very loud 'yee-haw' to each and every member of GamerchiX. If it weren't for you ladies/women/girls/grrls/chicks taking a chance on joining our group, GamerchiX would be nothing but an idea and a cute logo. June 04 Monday Night Pac-ManI've got whiplash from switching so quickly from World Cyber Games US Open (check the fruits of mine and video monkey's labors here) and crazy Gears of War action to the Pac-Man World Championships!
The best Pac-Man players in the world arrived in New York City today from the UK, Austria, the US, Canada, Taiwan, Japan, New Zealand and Mexico. They're all really cool (except jbob007 from Ohio who has NEVER seen The Godfather). Our 13 year old finalist from the UK, jimbot001, is adorable and a great kid.
And omg, I got my picture taken with Billy Perfect PACMAN Mitchell! Check Xbox.com tomorrow for great tournament action and big BIG news from the Pac-Man World Championships! June 03 I love WCG!This stuff is so fun. I love watching the competition and meeting the gamers and sponsors. The people involved in gaming are really so great. E sports is still so young that you don't have the massive egos that go with giant salaries, groupies, and endorsement deals. People are passionate about games, and 99% of the time are good sports.
Cool peeps I met today:
Conartistic, who is one of my premiere Xbox Ambassadors, came down just to meet me--how cool is that?
MoB GODFATH3R, who is a character, a crackup and my new BFF.
Dudes from Turtle Beach. They make kickass headsets, and I made them my bitches.
Joe from TPN, who makes cool stuff happen and likes my ideas.
Shoutcasters from GGL and esports.com who were good sports about me shoving them a little.
Other people who are very cool and nice but I can't remember their names or I lost their cards
Highlights of the weekend:
Between rounds of Gears, shopping at A/X, Aveda, and the CNN store (wonder woman tshirt!)
Dinner last night at Morimoto. I ate raw tuna pizza--and liked it!
Vanilla latte from Dean and Deluca kept me from slipping into a coma
Amy Winehouse on the cover of Rolling Stone!
Lowlights of the weekend:
Crap hotel
Couldn't sleep AT ALL last night
Bought a sandwich and forgot about it for about five hours...then ate it anyway
Purchasing expensive Aveda hairproducts because the sign said "Is your hair unruly?"
Freaking Met is closed tomorrow when I have a sliver of free time
So, I'm gonna be up for quite some time tonight putting together the coverage for xbox.com (french fries, mayo and 4 tiny diet cokes are on their way up via room service). Tomorrow in my sliver of freeness should I go to MOMA, or check out the Mythic Creatures exhibit at Museum of Natural History?
June 02 WCG US Open Day One - New York CityI just got back to my hotel after a long day at the Samsung Experience Center. It was a really good turnout! Saw a bunch of old friends like ch0mpr, Max1mus, BBoyle, o m a s t e r o, Athena Twin PMS; plus met cool new people Vanessa PMS and Kasumichan PMS.
Day One Results:
Dead or Alive 4
#1 o m a s t e r o
#2 Vanessa PMS
Project Gotham Racing 3
#1 ch0mpr
#2 Max1mus
These gamers are all going to be in Cancun later this month for the Pan-American games. I'm hoping to go to that, but we'll see what the boss says
Coming up tomorrow:
