March 24 TiQal = New Zuma?Could this week's new XBLA game finally do away with my Zuma addiction? I'm checking out the game detail page on Xbox.com and it seems to have some similarities:
Check out TiQal here. And look for me playing it on Wednesday! March 21 Holy Crap! KP Beats Major Nelson!I kinda gave up on doing the weekly top gamertags, but I just checked and noticed something astonishing: Major Nelson has slipped to number 3 (no doubt due to his vacation) and KP and Cow Moolester are the ones that dethroned him!
Have a good weekend everyone. Hope the Easter Bunny brings you lots of jellybeans and choc rabbits!! March 20 I found the Hidden Path!Yesterday I took both monkeys (Video and PiX3L) to Bellevue to shoot a Developer Spotlight on Hidden Path Entertainment. I've known their CEO Jeff Pobst since we worked together at Sierra On-Line. I remember he wanted me to come up with a title for a sequel game and after about 7 rounds of 50 suggestions each round I told him "Look dude, I'm working with the same 26 letters you are. I don't have access to secret language. You GOTTA pick one of these!"
Anyway, Jeff and some of his buddies (that I know from their Xbox days) started their own game studio: Hidden Path Entertainment. They're the dudes that made Culture (one of the XNA Community Arcade titles) and the upcoming Wits and Wagers. I played W&W yesterday and it is FUN.
The superbonus was that Jeff, Mark, Michael and Dave gave me two boxes of Girl Scout cookies.
Check out Hidden Path, and look for an upcoming Developer Spotlight on Inside Xbox.

March 09 Hungover in HannoverYesterday I was not feeling so well. Friday night a bunch of us went out for some authentic German food....and much authentic German beer. Somehow we ended up in an Irish pub because Acey was adamant about singing karaoke. The karaoke dude hated Americans and turned off Acey's mic. When I got back to the room I hurled my schnitzel--rather unpleasant.
The next morning we had a late start but managed to walk all over Hannover and film a TriXie's Travels video for Inside Xbox. I'm wearing sunglasses because I'm well...hungover.
I don't know what else to say. Check the pictures for a laugh.
March 07 Quick News from Deutchland
March 05 Finally in GermanyThe first part of the trip went well. Other than I started packing and couldn't seem to stop until i filled two suitcases. Really, how many black tshirts did I think I'd need in five days? Anyway flight to A'dam was cool. Watched Juno, read Esquire and the Economist (uh, and In Style). Video Monkey and I arrive in Amsterdam tired but ready to get on our lil turboprop for a short flight to Hannover. DENIED. German airport dudes are on strike and our flight was cancelled. Not "let's rebook you on another flight", but "F you, mesdames and mesieurs and take the f'in train". First waited an hour for our bags. Then another hour in line for train tickets. One dirty swap-meet train, a frigid wait on a freezing platform at Armsfoort or something like that and a mad dash to jump up on the train with both heavy bags later and we were cozy in our seats on the good train to Hannover. Got a great pic of Video Monkey crashed out on the train. He looks like a dead horse with his mouth hanging open.
Anyway three hours laterish we arrive in Hannover, hop in a cab for the short ride to the hotel, and all is now well. I took a nap then me and VidMonkey met BFF Lindsey, WCG Paulie, and AceyBongos for dinner in the lobby. I had some very rare meat which Acey and Paulie helped me finish off.
Things I like so far:
It's sunny!
Everyone speaks English!
Euros are pretty!
I'm out of the office!
I get to hang out with BFF Lindsey who I haven't seen since October!
Things I don't like:
300 US Dollars turned into 180 pretty Euros
My bedspread is crazy-ugly
The shower is smaller than a phone booth. No turning around, and difficult even to lift one's arms to shampoo. I am 5'4". How do normal-sized people deal?
Coke Light exists but comes in miniscule bottles. Unacceptable.
March 04 All goodnessI kicked that keynote's ass and made it write bad checks. For some weird reason I wasn't as nervous as I dreaded and once I got going, it was no big deal. The audience was great. Not many gamers among them but they seemed interested in what we're doing with community stuff at Xbox. They laughed a lot (in the right places!) and asked good questions. Afterwards lots of them came up to talk to me and some other universities expressd an interest in having me come talk at their schools. And there was another really cool possibility that I'm super stoked about, but don't want to jinx by talking about yet.
After the thing my friend Joelleybean (who came with me for moral support because she's the best friend EVER) and I went to Santa Monica to find some sunshine and lunch. We saw Paris Hilton with a chihuahua puppy that I mistook for a rat. Joelleybean gave her the stink eye, but I was too surprised to punch her in the throat as I've long vowed to do should our paths ever cross. Next time, Paris.
Tomorrow Video Monkey and I head off to Hannover, Germany for the World Cyber Games European Championship. We're meeting up with AceyBongos where we shall tag-team some videos for Inside Xbox UK and USA. Acey has promised to bail me out of jail should the need arise. Maybe I can even get him to punch Paris for me! |
